Charles Dickens, 1812-1870

Biographical note

19th Century English author, possibly second only to Shakespeare in lasting popularity. Much of his work dealt with the social issues of the day, and were influential in bringing about change. Many of his novels first appeared in serial form, making his output even more astonishing, because they were written to a deadline.
