Pater, Walter Horatio (Complete Works, with earlier editions)

"Aesthetic Poetry" (1889)  PDF (189k) |  | Based on the London: Macmillan, 1889 first edition of Appreciations. The essay was omitted from the 1890 and subsequent editions.

"Giordano Bruno" (1889).  PDF (246k) |  | Based on the version in The Fortnightly Review.  London: Chapman and Hall, Ltd.  Volume XLVI. New Series, July 1 to December 1, 1889.  (Volume LII., Old Series.) The essay, substantially revised, was included as Chapter VII of the unfinished novel Gaston de Latour in 1896, the year after Pater's death.

This section will eventually contain essays that Pater published in the Westminster Review and The Fortnightly, among other journals.  Most of the essays, though not all, appear later in his books and collected works.
